Newsletter of the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club, Vol. 27, No. 2
FR= OM THE COMMODORE

            Summer = is just around the corner, and I can hardly wait!  As we prepare for another 6 inches of snow, it is hard to believe that the first night of laser sailing is a week away.  If you have not had dinner at the Club yet, come on down; Judy and Billy are doing a wonderful job and are eager to show their stuff.

 =            Next weekend is Dock-In Day, and we need all hands on deck.  Please plan to come out on Saturday morning April 30 at 8:00 AM and help us whip the place into shape for the season.  There are jobs for everyone.  The mission of Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club is to promote and encourage sailing and sailboat racing on Chautauqua Lake.

 =            With that in mind, I offer the following advice to both new and old members.

1.=       Join an= E Scow Crew for the 2005 season; these sailors are the soul of CLYC, and there is no better way to instantly get involved than to be out there every Sunday.

2.=       Try you= r hand at Laser racing sailing; Lasers are fun and simple, and you instantly rise to the status of Captain.

3.=       Finally, want an easier entry into sailing and sailboat racing?  The new Portsmouth Fleet is, a laid back group, eager to help beginning sailors discover the fun of racing.

Contact Dick Turner, CLYC Fleet Captain; Wendy Bond, Board Member in charge of Adult Sailing; or me, and I promise we will do everything we can to get you sailing.

        = ;

See you on Saturday, and let’s get the docks in, the lawn chairs out, and the pool ready for Summer 2005.

As<= st1:PersonName w:st=3D"on"> the biggest CLUB Happening we have is to get our Club ready, we invite you all to join us at the Club on Saturday morning, April 30th= for our Annual DOCK-IN DAY!  Lunch will be provided!

            The largest and most worrisome task that I face is the opening of the facility in the spring …. the fab= led DO= CK-IN DAY! And, I need all the help I can get to make it a success.  The date this year is actually two days, Saturday, April 30th & Saturday, May 7th, and I need everyone who reasonably can to volunteer to work ONE of those two days. Lunch will be provided for volunteers. There will be tasks both large and small from getting out lawn furniture or washing a window to totin that iron & wood to install the docks.

     In an effort to be organized, I would ask you to email me at ng= ustafson@alltel.net and let me know which day you can join me.        = ;            &n= bsp;            = ;            &n= bsp;            = ;            &n= bsp;               = ;            &n= bsp;            = ;                               Neal Gustafson

        = ;    Annual Ladies Night Out Skillman’s Fashion Show

 = ;           I know that you are ready for summer, but is your= wardrobe?  Come on down to the Club Saturday, May 20th and see what Skillman’s has to offer. This will be a co-ed event; Skillman’s has increased their line of men’s wear, so ladies bring your man. Guys, if fashion is not your thing, maybe it should be; besides, somebody has to hold down the barstools. Cocktails will begin at six with dinner, and the fashion show to start at seven.  Reservations must be in by May 15th. Call Cilla = Menzies at 763-4331 to make your reservation. Menu and more information to follow on the web at SAILCLYC.org.

Note on the Breeze:

        = ;    The amount of work and the cost of producing and mailing the Breeze has become difficult to rationalize. To have it done out of house would cost us well over $1200 a month. For Cheryl Fardink to continue to do this monthly takes up to 20 hours each month—or = more and costs her countless dollars of personal money. To make this process more manageable, the Board has decided to take advantage of email as the primary method of distribution. <= /st1:PersonName>Starting in 2005 we will be emailing the Breeze to all email addresses, and Cheryl will still print around 40 copies to be available at the Club for members who do not have email addresses. Chuting= the Breeze will also be available on-line at www.sa= ilclyc.org.                                             = ;            &n= bsp;            = ;            &n= bsp;                    = ;            &n= bsp;            = ;   Dave = Menzies

Entertainment/Social

        The new awning is up at the Club.  The steel framework went up in seven hours (I watched), the large one-piece awning in three hours. Our= Amish gentlemen will also provide end panels with large clear vinyl windows as soon as final measurements have been taken.  No extra cost for this. In as much as I contacted all the bidders for this project and  worked with Messrs Yoder and Miller, I'll continue with them until all work is completed. PS: I gave them the photo on page one of the awning installation.  They were quite pleased, stating that this was their largest project.&nb= sp;

         Entertainment events:  A great May is ahead.  May 8th = is the Mothers’ Day Brunch from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. This will take place only if enough reservations are made by May 1st = to Judy at 763-5385, or we must cancel.

 &= nbsp;       May 14th= is the New Member Party, a chance to introduce potential new members to the Club. Please make reservations by May 8th to Bill Reynolds at 763-2201.

 &= nbsp;   May 21st is the Annual Fashion Show, this time a Saturday night coed event with cocktails at 6:00 and dinner at 7:00. Please make reservations with Cilla Menzies, at 763-4331, by May 15th.
