JP 2008 Staff Bios!
2008 JP Counselors
Will Bargar – Director
We welcome back Will Bargar as Director of our JP program. He is a
certified Level 1 Sailing instructor. Will learned to sail in numerous youth
programs including JP. He has experience as a counselor for the Chautauqua
Institution Boys and Girls Club. He has certifications in CPR and has been
trained in first aid. He is completing his third year pursuing a Bachelors
Degree in Management from John Carroll University in Cleveland OH. Will has
just returned from a 6 month experience studying and living abroad in
Beijing, China.
Jessica Weise – Director
Jessica is also returning for her second year as a director. She is a
certified Water Safety Instructor as well as trained in CPR and First Aid.
She has worked as a Group Leader at the YMCA working in two different
after-school programs. She is currently in her third year of college at SUNY
Fredonia, working toward a degree in Childhood Education with a focus in
Social Studies.
Curtis Columbare – Counselor
We are welcoming Curtis back for his second year as a sailing counselor.
Curtis grew up learning to sail in the Junior Program. He participated in
some major optimist regattas including the New England and Midwestern
Championships. He has also enjoyed sailing on E-scows. Curtis has a Red
Cross CPR certification. Curtis Graduated from Jamestown High School in
2007. Currently, he completing his second year at Rochester Institute of
Technology, and majoring in Environmental Management & Technology.
Julie Scarpino – Counselor
Julie is a senior at Jamestown High School.
She has been accepted to a medical school program that begins with 4 years
of undergraduate study at St. Bonaventure University followed by Medical
School at George Washington. Her past work experience includes seven months
as a cashier at McDonalds and ten months as
a sales associate at The Finish Line athletics store. Her extracurricular
activities include running, playing piano, swimming, and playing tennis.
She played tennis for the division champion JHS varsity tennis team. She
participated in the Junior Miss Scholarship Program where she won the poise
division of the competition and second runner up over all. She also played
piano weekly for the Tanglewood Nursing Home and volunteered weekly at the
WCA Hospital in the Emergency Room. She is certified as a lifeguard.
Philip Sellstrom – Counselor
Philip is an Eagle Scout, certified scuba diver, Red Cross Life Guard,
certified in CPR and First Aid, He is also a NYSSRA Level 100 and PSIA Level
1 Ski Instructor. He is an Honor student at Jamestown High School has been a
member of the Varsity Swim Team and Tennis Team. He has worked at YMCA Camp
Onyahsa for the past two summers and Holiday Ski School this past enjoys
crewing on e-scows.
Jessica Troche – Counselor
Jessica will be a senior at Southwestern High School in the fall. She plays
Varsity Tennis and is currently the Captain of the CLRA High School rowing
team.
She loves to sail and started sailing Opti's at CLYC at
the age of eight. She sailed her Byte for several years and currently crews
on an E-Scow. She is looking forward to being a Sailing Instructor at JP
this summer. Colin Robinson
Colin is becoming an official member of our JP staff this year.
He has volunteered the past two years as a counselor in training. Before
that, he sailed OPTIs at JP for 5 summers and spent 3 summers traveling to
national and international regattas on the east coast with the Lake Ontario
Optimist Team (LOOT). Nowadays he sails lasers, crews on e-scows and enjoys
the occasional sail on his byte. Colin is certified in Red Cross first aid
and CPR and has his level 1 sailing instructor certification. He enjoys
sailing, skiing and riding his unicycles and is looking forward to a great
summer. |
